Tram system
The public transportation has never been the greatest in Barrie. I think we should have a tram system around the city to move people around easier. I bet more people would use public transportation if it was simple with more lines around town and marketing it as being more convenient then driving.
Similar to the Europe trams-I have attached the one from Basel Switzerland which is just as bit as Barrie.1 vote -
Improve our Recreation Facilities and Build More
The current state of our recreation facilities are in need of repair.
Considering the monthly fees and lack of amenities/offerings inside of our current recreation facilities. I'd like to propose that we:
- assess the needs of the recreation centers we currently have and repair/update as needed.
- create 2 additional recreation centers to address the influx of our community population and have the 2 new recreation centers focused more on swimming, gym, etc rather than hockey. Our current facilities are congested due to the ongoing tournaments etc which becomes very disruptive for those who pay monthly fees to be…6 votes -
Rename the Lake Simcoe Regional Airport the Gordon Lightfoot Regional Airport
Hello! I recently posted on the Nextdoor local app with regards to renaming the Lake Simcoe Regional Airport to the Gordon Lightfoot Regional Airport.
I have had in the last few days, over 40 responses agreeing to this change! It would be awesome if the City of Barrie could support me in this cause!!!
Thanks in advance for any support!Bob McNair

Stop light at the corner of the Queensway and Prince William Way.
Traffic has increased greatly on Prince William Way with the new high school. The crosswalk light near the Queensway is confusing for drivers. The elementary school is right there. Either a regular traffic light needs to be put on the corner or a traffic attendant needs to be present in the morning/afternoon to safely help kids cross.

Lamp posts paint black
Lamp posts along lakeshore and in downtown core look tired and dated with the green color Paint is chipping on some as well. Black lamp posts will freshen things up and look more modern and clean. Will provide beautiful contrast against the stunning hanging flower baskets as well. A little paint goes a long way in esthetics!

Build an outdoor pool so citizens of all ages can cool off
Beaches are way too overcrowded in the summer months. The current population and the tourist population has become so vast that it is impossible to find parking or beach area to sit. Due to the risks involved in contracting COVID, many residents prefer to be outside instead of using indoor pools. The recreation centre's also limit the use of public swim times that are available to residents.

Promote this site so more people are aware of it
This is a great site, but could be better if more people knew about it. I found out from a stranger on a Facebook group. Every tax payer/ barrie resident should be apart of this group.

RE: Homeless population. Tabs need to be kept on OW and ODSP workers
OW and ODSP are in the habit of "accidently" cutting people off their benefits causing them to become homeless. They assume no responsibility and actually have recipients sign that they assume responsibility for the workers actions or "errors". Many have been forced out on the streets due to the abuse of authority from these two offices. Our current MPP does nothing when contacted!

Expand On-Street Parking - Franks Way
I am a new homeowner here in Barrie, I now live on a relatively new street Franks Way just off of Burton in the South End. Between the stretch of 16 houses there is a small permitted area for on-street parking of 5 vehicles. Over the span of the several months living here this small area is CONSTANTLY full resulting in residents of this street and their guests parking in the "No Parking Area". Multiple neighbours have been issued tickets simply because their driveway is full and so is the very tiny area designated on the street itself.
This designated…
