Crosswalk and stoplight at Harvey/Thrushwood intersection
The intersection of Harvey and Thrushwood is an intersection between a main road and one of two exist to the nearby residential neighbourhood. In addition, the following places are right by the intersection:
Trillium Woods Elementary School
Trillium Woods Daycare Centre
A residential neighbourhood
Discovery Daycare Centre
A new multi resident family condo developments (right down the road at the Harvey/Veterans intersection, less than 200m away)
A different new multi resident family condo development (Harvey/Thrush is 3 way intersection, the 4th side of intersection is where condo will be built)
4 bus stations within a 5 minute walk
Veteran Woods Park
Montserrand Park
Plaza at 420 Essa Road (has starbucks, shoppers, pizza, and subway, which kids and teens are often hanging out at after school)
Due to the school, residential neighbourhood, bus stops, and general closeness to many peoples homes, this street is frequented with pedestrian traffic, and this traffic is often young. Many kids use this path while walking home from school, or from the bus stops nearby. Many kids use this intersection to walk to the nearby plaza or parks to hang out with their friends.
I can attest to this as I was one of these kids about a decade ago. However, in the time since, the road has gotten exponentially busier and more dangerous for pedestrians. This is a high traffic area, and needs to be accessable to pedestrians.
It is also very difficult for traffic coming from Thrushwood (which is a main road connecting a residential neighbourhood to Harvey) to make turns since there is no traffic light. It is currently a three-way turn with the oncoming traffic from Harvey often going at 60km/h or more, and is very busy during rush hour, with all 3 lanes of traffic being quite heavy. This makes right turns hard, and left turns next to impossible. The rest of the intersections on this road have stoplights and pedestrian walkways.
I think it is high time that one is added to the Harvey/Thrushwood intersection as well.
