Windrow snow clearing
Provide clearing of windrow snow from the end of the driveways. Other cities such as Vaughan, toronto, and mississauga provide this to all residents.
If it is a budgetary concern, then only provide this service for senior residents. The elderly should not be clearing the heavy, icy snow left over by the snow plows

Im actually surprised i live in the south of barrie and the city came today to clean the snow and the windrow

This is a safety and accessibility issue – without windrow clearing, people in wheelchairs, with baby strollers, or mobility issues are faced with the choice of walking on an icy street, or not leaving the house until spring.

This is a critical service required for Barrie residents. The heavy slush and snow dumped on driveways is practically impossible to remove.

The city should invest in snow plows that have a wing to clear any street snow that is dumped on driveways when plowing the streets.
The city should lift snow from residents curbs when snow banks reach 1 meter in height. Barrie property taxes are higher than the rest of the GGH. Better fund management and prioritization is required. -

With the high taxes we pay on our homes, there is no reason to not have this done for us. Let’s do better for our people Barrie!

Just do it, it's very critical. City got enough taxes from us, even speeding camera earning money towards city's poket. Why Toronto, Richmond Hill, Vaughn could afford it, and Barrie the northest city didn't even thought about that. JUST DO IT! Clean after the mess your plaw tracks left on our driveway. You need collect the majority of snow from the street and dump it. There's no space on the sides of the driveway. Thanks.

Even in better winters the amount of snow that gets pushed into my driveway is ridiculous. I'm less than 40 years old and have back problems from removing it. My gas blower is unable to get through the think snow/slush/ice mess the plows deposit.

We pay high taxes here and should be able to get some benefit I'm a senior and payed all my working life in taxes.

I lived in Richmond Hill and they removed snow at the end of the driveway for all residents

We have an extremely high property tax rate compared to other cities and the snow clearing efforts are not very good. How are there only 15 plows on the city plow tracker after a large snow storm. The amount of snow build up pushed onto driveways is unrealistic and unreasonable for residents to clear. How can residents be expected to clear large volumes of heavy snow that are pushed by plows. Small amounts of snow is reasonable however these large amount of snow is not. What if someone has an emergency and can't get off their driveway with these massive pileups of snow?

Adding windrow service will take much longer to clear the roads in Barrie and although they are cleared relatively quick for the amount of snow we get people still say it's slow.
It also requires a very large investment in equipment which means taxes will go up, so if people are okay paying more taxes then they can hire a contractor to remove the windrow from their driveway. -

While it is great to hear that people like David n their 70s are able to still shovel the driveway, I am 43 and typing this from a hospital in Toronto (RVH doesnt have specialist I need).
We should add the household of people with disabilities as well. Like those who recieve the disability tax credit or CPP-D (Not just seniors over 65). These people should get snow removal of the heavy mess the city leaves each time -

I am disabled, a single mother and my 2 adult children are also disabled. I am not longer able to do this myself and we will often be plowed in and have to wait for our hired plow to be able to come and clear. Windrow clearing by the city would decrease the chance of an emergency situation happening and us not being able to get help quickly.

This hasn't been an issue for us the 20 years we've lived in Barrie. The city is responsible for clearing the roads in a timely manner.
Cities to the south (GTA) do not get this much snow. And very few of them clear windrow snow. Using Toronto as a comparison is unrealistic. 30 cm of snow and they call on the Army. Try comparing cities to the west or north of us. None of them do it.
Someone has to pay for this service - the increase in taxes for every homeowner would create far more hardship than the snow at the end of a driveway does.
I'm 71 and still manage to keep our driveway clear (with help from my snowblower) along with helping out neighbours when they need it. -

Snow plough driver shouldn’t be pushing the snow onto the driveways.

Re: windrow blocked with snow from street plow. Streets in Barrie cleared of snow nicely but shifting it onto my driveway and saying it's your problem now infuriating quite frankly. Then a bylaw stating I mustn't return it to the road. Absolute fail by city, blocking windrows with all the snow, sidewalks in northeast end difficult to walk also.

As a senior who lives across from a pregnant corner, the plough leaves a wide heavy and high windrow wake of snow that’s impossible for me to clear. I have hired a service but even they say the city should address this volume on the street. Is there still a specific ploughing policy on clearing roads at pregnant corners anymore?

If cities to the south of us have this in their budget, then Barrie definitely should. I live on a corner lot on the right side of the street. All houses in this position on any street get the full plow of snow dumped at the end of their driveway. The plow barely moves forward during the turn, but pivots to the right so that all the snow from the beginning of the turn ends on our driveways. We should have secondary clearing above all other houses, then do the rest

This can be accomplished, but the cost would be prohibitive. I think people don’t realize they could hire a season’s worth of plowing and it would be less than the increase in taxes to pay for windrow removal.
It’s also strange to me the recent uproar. More than 40 years in Barrie and I never heard anyone wanting this until the last few years. I’ll hazard a guess these are mostly people new to Barrie. Regardless, I don’t believe moving to a snow belt city and then complaining about snow is rather silly.

I am disabled and cannot afford to pay someone to come clean up the mess left behind by the city. All they have to do is change direction of where the snow is going at each driveway and redirect again at boulevards.
Sidewalks also need to be usable for walkers, wheelchair users, and people with strollers.
