  2. STOP PLOWS FROM BLOCKING IN DRIVEWAYS

Other cities are using newer equipment to prevent plotting in residential drives. As we are part of the snow belt, a bedroom community for Toronto and a tourist zone we need to be able to leave in the mornings after a storm. After we have already busted our backs shoveling or using blowers (therefore gas) moving the show. To wake up at 6am to find your work undone is infuriating to be polite.

Do you need help clearing the snow from the end of your driveway? Visit www.snowangelscanada.ca to request assistance from volunteers! (The City does not own or operate the online platform, but City staff worked with Snow Angels Canada to customize it for Barrie residents.)

  3. Extra large recycle bins on wheels with lids

Many communities use automated trucks for emptying the recycle bins which have at least five times the capacity of the current bin. People would recycle more with larger capacity bins instead they start throwing things in the garbage. Not to mention it would be much safer if a driver does not have to leave the vehicle as I've seen many times a driver jumps out of the vehicle while it's still moving. One of these days those trucks brakes will not engage and will keep going without the driver and someone's going to get hurt or killed! Also people with…

  4. Increase bus frequency to Georgian college

You should increase the frequency of buses to georgian college. Especially at johnson at georgian because some student doesn't get room in the bus so driver have to leave them. And at that stop only 8A stops so it gets almost full from before stations so we are facing problems. If it's possible add an stop of 100 at johnson at Georgian.

    Thank you

  5. Change the overnight parking time from 12-7 to 2-7

It does not seem fair that people who are visiting a residence past 12:00am run the risk of getting a ticket for parking on the street overnight. These people are not staying on the street overnight, and it is not unreasonable for a gathering to run past midnight, especially during the Christmas/New Year holidays. A 2:00am start time is much more reasonable and fair.

  8. Close all stores by 3pm during covid19. People are not taking this crisis serious and are out all hours of the day.

Even grocery stores need to close to restock and clean. People are not getting it. They are not staying home.

  9. Introduce the FOG Cup Program. A way to collect fats, oils and grease deterring people from pouring down the drain.

How to use the FOG cup

Pour cooled grease, fat or lard into this cup.

Store the cup (with lid on) in your fridge or freezer.
Let the FOG solidify and then place this cup (and lid) in your Green Bin for disposal.

The cups and lids are compostable, BPI certified, and approved for use in the City’s Green Bin program. Residents are encouraged to use these cups to properly dispose of cooking FOG.

Please note that staff are looking into a FOG cup and lid that our organics processor will accept. Currently our processor does not accept certified compostable products (such as lids and cutlery) because they take too long to break down in the aerobic composting process.

  10. dunlop mulcaster to owen

Not impressed with what has been done so far. Removing the turn lanes at Dunlop and Mulcaster will be a congestive nightmare. Big metal posts sticking up every 12-15ft is not an attractive look. The parking area as designed is more dangerous. Not impressed.

  12. This suggestion is for the residents of Barrie - the City just has to continue to promote the importance of buying locally

In talking to people about the disastrous impacts of buying consumers goods from Amazon rather than supporting local retailers, I do not believe the vast majority of people have any idea of how catastrophic the long term impact of their shopping habits might be.
We need to buy local whenever possible and especially, we need to support our downtown retailers.
Here’s why I refrain from buying from Amazon-
Jeff Bezos, head of Amazon is one of the richest men in the world. Not only did he not pay any taxes, whatsoever, last year, but through all kinds of tax loop…

  14. Minet's Point beach washroom and garbage pick-up

Could we not spend a few thousand dollars to spruce up the washroom at Minets Point? Paint, new sinks and toilets would go a long way. This is a well used park especially for families. If we are charging for parking - which is actually a good idea - we should be providing reasonable facilities.

If garbage pickup cannot be increased could we have more containers to avoid the overflow which happens on a regular basis during the summer months.

Anticipating a great beach season, thanks.

The City periodically proactively communicates information about items that should not be flushed. A list of common items that shouldn’t be flushed is also published at www.barrie.ca/sewers.

  18. Install more advance green lights at intersections, and restrict left turns to advance green cycles

Install more advance green lights at intersections, and restrict left turns to advance green cycles. Currently on many arterial roads throughout the city the only opportunity to turn left is on the yellow light. This creates dangerous situations as many vehicles try to "race" the yellow lights and thus conflict with left turning traffic. It is very common to see both near misses and accidents caused by this conflict. By shifting left turning traffic to advance greens this conflict would be greatly reduced resulting in decreased congestion as well as improved road safety.
