Thank you for participating in the City of Barrie's Suggestion Forum.
The sign indicating how the speed limit can differ depending on the time of year, the day, and time of day—related to times when children are travelling to and from schools—temporarily replaces the flashing lights to warn of a 40 km/h zone, which must be covered when cameras are active. The Government of Ontario doesn't permit speed limits that vary and flashing lights to be posted at the same time. A static speed limit sign allows a provincial offences officer to be 100% confident that the accurate speed limit was posted to advise drivers of the maximum speed, which helps ensure that the ASE regulation under the Highway Traffic Act (Regulation 398/19 Sec 3.1.6) can be fully met and that tickets can be issued.

This also happened at essa rd and dunn where the lights were covered and a sign with a bunch of times and dates which is completely ridiculous given that this is supposed to be about safety. I had no idea what the covered lights meant so i went 50 thinking the 40 was deactivated or new or something. Another peculiar thing that has to be against some bylaw or traffic act procedure is that the sign telling you there was a municipal camera in use was on the same light post as the camera itself. Since seeing that i have been looking at cameras in vaughan where i work and both redlight camera warning signs AND speed camera signs are a certain distance prior to where the camera is located giving you a fair warning its coming. City of barrie are scamming their own communities to make money off ppl who just pay the fine thinking there is nothing they can do especially once they send you a warning with big letters and red ink telling you they will garnish your wages or put a hold on your plate renewals lol this is absolutely appaulling that there is this many “mistakes” all across the city of barrie lol
