HOW IT WORKS:
Step 1 Enter your idea below and check to see if your suggestion has already been made; if it has, give it your vote and/or comment.

Step 3 Once a suggestion reaches 500 votes, it will be noted as Under Review.
  1. Remove metal poles at dunlop st

The new metal poles on Dunlop where the road narrows is extremely dangerous. There is NO WHERE for anyone to pull over for emergency vehicles and this causes major problems for curb side pickup as well as pickup and drop off of Uber passengers. They need to removed and some form of parking allowed on that stretch so the main road can not be obstructed

  2. Introduce the FOG Cup Program. A way to collect fats, oils and grease deterring people from pouring down the drain.

How to use the FOG cup

Pour cooled grease, fat or lard into this cup.

Store the cup (with lid on) in your fridge or freezer.
Let the FOG solidify and then place this cup (and lid) in your Green Bin for disposal.

The cups and lids are compostable, BPI certified, and approved for use in the City’s Green Bin program. Residents are encouraged to use these cups to properly dispose of cooking FOG.

  3. Return washroom hours

A lot of people are always trying to access the southshore washrooms after the lockdown with the new 5pm closure,

We are now in phase 3 and would like to see hours return back to 9pm I've seen lots of people try to go in or I'll tell them its closed when i think they are headed to the washrooms.

If it doesnt change we will see a lot more people decide to go behind the dumpsters.

  5. residential street parking - south Barrie

I think that a driveway should be for cars/motorbikes but not for boats & trailer or multiple trailers or ATV's or snowblowers in the summertime. When these items take the place of the vehicle and the vehicle is parked on the street night and day, after day after week after month, then I think a permit should be served. Street parking should be the exception not the norm. Builders are creating shorter driveways these days and people are beginning to use their garages for storage not necessarily for car(s). Hence the side streets are filling up and it creates for…

  6. Dive park for scuba and freedivers located at Johnsons beach please!

Hi you may see me out floating in my wetsuit I am taking up freediving and I do not wish to be killed by the careless boaters that you allow to operate in Kempenfelt Bay. So what I am proposing is a dedicated dive park so that boaters will be aware and stay out of the designated area. This would be beneficial as well because there are no active swim areas with over 30ft of depth something that is sought after as a diver. Thank you for your time.

The City has launched a new interactive tool for residents to suggest locations in Barrie where they would like to see speed cushions installed: https://bit.ly/BarrieSpeedCushions

Residents can use this application to submit a location, or “like” a location already submitted, for the City to consider putting a speed cushion in 2021. The City will collect submissions until November 13, 2020.

The submissions received from the public will be shared with Members of Council in January 2021 to help councillors decide where speed bumps should be placed in each ward in 2021.

Visit www.barrie.ca/traffic to learn more about the City’s traffic calming methods.

  8. Put a stop sign at Dock and Cox mill road intersection

We desperately need a stop sign at dock and coxmill road. It is very dangerous for people walking across dock when cars are flying down Coxmill and making a right hand turn down Dock road. With a school and old age home within a block we need to make this cross walk and street safe!

  10. Spring Clean Up in Barrie-Volunteers should clean up outdoor areas.

Now that many people are unemployed, volunteers can clean up areas around the city. Particularly around shopping areas as there is a lot of garbage. City council should get the message out to employers & citizens for this weekend.

  12. Underwater SCUBA park

Partner with the MacLaren or the Base Borden to create an underwater SCUBA park.

Barrie is a popular destination for Scuba diving instruction, but there is not a lot in Kempenfelt Bay to keep certified divers here.

I'm sure you would have an army of volunteers to scrub the artifacts to start the season.

  16. Garbage Pickup Family Teams

During the Covid-19 set up neighborhood family garbage pickup teams to clean up all the trash along the roadsides and parks, Have the garbage workers supply bags and pickup poles to the family crews. People are tired and bored of being lock up in their homes this would allow them to go outside and get some needed exercise. I see this happening in different communities. I do a lot hiking the outdoor garbage is disgusting.

  17. Enforce apartments and/or condos to take action to restrict pigeon infestation\

Enforce Property managers of apartment building, condos, and condominiums to take necessary action to restrict pigeon infestation. Pigeons are roosting on roofs of these buildings and their waste is ending up on balconies. Pigeon waste is a health hazard and personal property has been destroyed. People living in these buildings haven't been able to enjoy their balconies because of this waste issue. People have been told that we should keep our balconies clean and normally wouldn't be a problem. With the pigeon issue though keeping balconies clean has become an impossible task.

  18. Minet's Point beach washroom and garbage pick-up

Could we not spend a few thousand dollars to spruce up the washroom at Minets Point? Paint, new sinks and toilets would go a long way. This is a well used park especially for families. If we are charging for parking - which is actually a good idea - we should be providing reasonable facilities.

If garbage pickup cannot be increased could we have more containers to avoid the overflow which happens on a regular basis during the summer months.

Anticipating a great beach season, thanks.
