  1. Raised community garden beds downtown for many seniors there

I would like to see a community garden with raised beds for the many seniors living in downtown condos. Perhaps roof tops could be used.

  3. Create pickleball courts. It’s a very popular sport for seniors. The tennis courts at Queens park could easily accommodate such courts.

The tennis courts at Queens Park on Ross street are seldom full. Pickleball is one of the fastest growing and popular sports for seniors. I suggest some of the tennis courts be changed to accommodate pickleballers.

  4. Higher speed limits for roads 4 lanes and more

Many highly travelled roads in Barrie are still 50 km limits. If a road is 4 lanes or more and without unsafe curves, limits should be higher to help move traffic along on busy roads. Many cities have 60-80 km limits. Why don’t we? Ticketing profit? Residential is understandable but Yonge st? Bayfield? Let’s keep the cars moving

  5. Advance left turn at Yonge and little

Yonge and little is increasingly busy and is a dangerous left turn due to poor visibility of oncoming traffic with a hill there.

  6. Stop All Building and Development

Barrie's Mayor, and City Council should put a stop to all building and development in Barrie immediately. Instead of trying to make Barrie the GTA of the north, they should concentrate on upgrading the city's services, and infrastructure to a level that can accomodate it's existing residents. Barrie does NOT need more minimum wage retail space. Fill the vacant spaces that exist!

  8. Sidewalk on Dock Road to Lake

While there is a sidewalk on Dock Road, it does not lead down to the lake. There are a lot of pedestrians on this road especially during the summer. Lighting is also bad. The lake is the draw. People speed up and down Dock Road all the time. I’ve filed a complaint with Barrie Police. A sidewalk would be a great start.

Use the city's water bill mailing to include a mail back postcard asking: Do you agree that our lake front and nearby walking trails must be cleared of invasive plant species? YES or NO

  10. Prevent parking on both sides of the street in residential streets. Majesty blvd. & Prince William. Fire truck can’t get past!!!

There have been close calls with children running between cars out into the road. Cars can’t pass each other. The biggest concern is emergency vehicles can’t make it between the cars. There should only be parking if any on one side of the road. It’s insane how people park on Majesty Blvd. Dangerous!

  11. Police need to be more visible and act upon School bus routes “Stop Arm runners”.

Though the rest of the country seems to be taking concrete steps to protect the children on school bus routes, we seem to still be medieval in our ambivalence to the serious nature of this problem. When drivers are reported to the BARRIE POLICE for running THESE signs action NEEDS to be taken. Will we wait till a child is sacrificed on the alter of inaction before it matters enough to our city.

How much is a child’s life worth?

Which parent will pay the price for the rest of their days.

Which driver of a school bus will have…

  13. Skywalk at Hillcrest Public School.

Something needs to be done at the crosswalk in front of Hillcrest Public school. It has become a daily occurrence to see cars run through the red light when small children are trying to cross the street. I am afraid it will take a tragedy before something is done to fix this.

  14. college

Smoking on campus will be banned as of May 6th. This will cause housing values to drop in the neighbourhoods surrounding the institution due to garbage in these areas, cigarette butts everywhere and will also cause a safety concern for those who are forced to smoke off campus, as campus security is not required to respond to incidents off campus property. As the community has made a $5 million commitment to Georgian College's new "N" building, this is a slap in the face to Ward 1 Barrie residents.

  15. The bank at the corner of mulcaster and collier st. needs to have wheel chair parking in front of the bank not across the road .

There are no wheel chair parking spots in front of the bank. ( Bank of Montreal ). This makes it very difficult for handycap customers. The first 2 spaces in front of the bank should be for wheel chair. Collier St and Mulcaster.
There is one wheel chair spot across the road which makes no sense at all. Thank you

  16. Stagger bus departure times for 8B N, 5B, 6A

All of these bus routes travel to the same quadrant of Barrie and are scheduled to depart from the terminal within a 5-min window. If you could stagger these schedules across a 15-min window, it would reduce waiting times for some passengers at the terminal and provide a more frequent service to that neighbourhood without needing to increase the frequency of any routes.

  17. Barrie LRT Line

Barrie is growing, and transit should too. Light Rail Transit is expanding in Ontario, cities like Kitchener/Waterloo and Ottawa are soon to open LRT lines.
Let's connect the city with a rapid transit line that moves people from Park Place/BMC to RVH/Georgian College with stops along the Allandale station, the Waterfront, Downtown. Further expansion in the future can include an east-west line. A bold idea for a bold city.

  18. Offer free bus fare for 1st Nation people

Card holders should ride the bus free, the driver should admit the person to ride at no cost. I remember the city would offer this is the past, it was a nice thought. Thank you!

  20. Suspend recycling during Wind Watches or Warning

To better manage recycling becoming trash during Wind Watches or Warnings littering homes and most importantly our forests and waterways. In an era of Spring into Clean, reactive is not enough. We need to be pro-active.
