I suggest the City ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Chicken wire wrap to save trees from Beaver damage|

Wrap chicken wire around trees along the lake shore to stop all the damage done by beavers last year. A $20.00 roll of wire could save taxpayers thousands replacing trees every year| I have used this idea for years at our cottage and never lost a tree to beaver damage. A recent trip to Stanley Park in Vancouver i saw it being used out there also. (the beavers are still around)

  3. Post signs re: boat launch procedure

We are regular users of the boat launch at Lakeshore and Innisfil.

There are no clear directions regarding:
-which side to put boat in
-which side to pull boat out
-how to line up vehicles waiting to launch or pull out
-what waiting boats should do (some tie up beside the launch and get their vehicle, others tie up in the launch, most line up in the water in their boats)
-who goes first if there is a line up to launch and a line up in the water to pull out

This is a major problem, causing "boat rage"…

  4. Have a centre median or guardrail on Fairview road

Travelling this road daily in the winter, the combination of a steep hill and sharp curves make this a dangerous road for headon collisions. Adding the new emergency campus/buildings will add more vehicles and emergency vehicles travelling at high speeds. I’m not an engineer but feel this road could be made safer

  6. Bulky Item Pick up for a Fee

The County of Simcoe waste management provides a bulky item pick up for a fee. This would be very helpful in the City of Barrie to have something similar for residents. https://www.simcoe.ca/SolidWasteManagement/Pages/bulky.aspx

  7. Place cameras at all intersections for red light jumpers....everyone knows who is driving their car....no excuses for running red lights

Placing cameras at intersections for red light runners is an excellent idea. Everyone should know who is driving their car.....too many people running red lights.

  8. Come up with a viable idea to clean up the downtown of vagrants and drug users.

Move services these individuals require away from the downtown and to a localized spot in a less congested area. Thus they can still receive the help they need, while making the downtown area less desirable to “hang around” for transients. I Know this will offend some people and I understand that, as poverty and addictions are a hard cycle to break, but we need to revitalize downtown and draw more people to do business here. And to the people whom are angry at my comments, I ask, “are we to wait till it gets so bad that downtown businesses go…

Homelessness and drug-use are both complex, ongoing issues that face many urban centres throughout Canada. Unfortunately, there isn’t a simple solution. The downtown core is policed by Barrie Police Community Response Unit (CRU), a team that specifically patrols the downtown and surrounding area. It is a collaborative effort between the City’s Enforcement Services and the County of Simcoe to ensure the safety for all who choose to visit and/or live in the downtown core.

In the event you see any illegal activity please contact the Barrie Police Service at 705-725-7025 or remain anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-TIPS (8477).

  9. Barrie Residents Should Have More Time To Pay Property Tax Bills

Upon receipt of a Barrie Property Tax Bill, Barrie Residents should have at least 3 months to pay each bill. It is unfair and unrealistic to expect
Property Tax Payers to have an unlimited amount of money whenever
the Government demands to receive money from us. Is everyone rich?
They don't have respect for us.

  10. Barrie Patients Need More Frequent Meals In Hospital

Barrie patients should receive their meals on a more frequent schedule.
Currently, patients wait too long to receive their food. For example,
my family member waited 16 hours to receive her breakfast after she
received her dinner. This in incredible and unforgivable. Are we living
    in a Third-World Country?

  11. People should have to pay to park on all Barrie Residential Streets.

People should have to pay to park on all Barrie Residential Streets.
People should have to pay for a parking permit or they should have to pay a parking fine. Residential Property Owners pay an extreme amount of
money for Property Tax . ---- Why are these people being cheated by
all of these people who park on our streets? Also, why are Property
Tax Payers being cheated by our Government? -------- Most people
struggle to pay their Property Tax Payments, while our Government
is throwing away hundreds of thousands of dollars. Why do these
    Street Parkers have more rights…

  12. Enforce Apartment Buildings and Condos to all have a Green Bin plan

This can be done. Some buildings in Toronto do it.

  13. Edgehill/Ferndale advances green

With increased traffic on Ferndale drive, an advanced green turning left from Ferndale to Edgehill (westbound) would ensure safety of pedestrians and drivers. I believe there is already an advanced green to turn eastbound on a Edgehill, so makes sense to also have it for westbound traffic.

    Thanks for reading my suggestion

  14. Reduce and eliminate plastic containers in restaurant

I work in a restaurant, and every time I go to a restaurant and don't finish my food, I think twice about asking a container to take it home or just let it become food waste which I personally don't like it either.

Since I realized how much garbage we are creating by asking a container each time we have food in a restaurant I started to bring a reusable container with me. Probably is not the fancier thing to do in a restaurant but I found less fancy creating pollution.

I would like to suggest that restaurant use other…

  15. Go after extremists

The Barrie police has a swat team and we pay very heavy taxes towards them! In light of the shootings, the Barrie police need to seriously start cracking down on neo Nazi terrorist activities. Whether it is a yellow vest screaming, some anti abortionists or anti LGBQT “protesters” etc. Hate speech is not free speech and these groups have proven to be violent and are now threatening our democracy. Instead of targeting minorities and innocent people doing day to day things. They should be going after them!

  16. stop Hiring wildlife management (murdering) businesses

I suggest the City let go the "wildlife management firm" from Hamilton that they have hired to destroy the waterfowl nests in the Bunker Creek Eco Park. Let nature take its course, there are predators in the city that will help control the waterfowl, our families of foxes, raptors, etc. Just leave the wildlife alone before you create more problems. These wildlife management firms just murder animals. Can you imagine dumping viable eggs into the water??? that is what they have been witnessed doing.

  17. Put a temporary speed bump on Trillium

A Temporary one has already been placed on garden dr but one is needed on trillium crescent. People speed like crazy on this street. Especially heading toward the stop sign. There are a ton of kids on this street. A temporary one placed around 86 trillium area and one around the bend would calm the street.

  19. Public bathrooms in parks

Our beautiful parks need to have publicly accessible washroom facilities. Spending a few hours at the park with children, bringing a snack and drinks, what a lovely way to be outdoors. Until someone needs to use the facilities-then it’s a scramble to get packed up and rush home.

Publicly accessible washroom facilities should be in all public parks.

  20. Repaint crossings near all schools

All crossings in front of schools need to be repainted in bright yellow. Drivers approaching theses areas need a reminder that children cross here. I am especially concerned about the crossing on Hawkins Dr before St Catherine’s Catholic school. Cars park on both sides of the street to pick up kids and often children can’t cross safely.
