Ban Circuses that still use exotic animals as performing acts.
Abusing and exploiting animals in the "name" of PROFIT is outrageous!
In order to get these animals to perform unnatural, painful, and stressful acts, trainers use blow torches, whips, shock them with taser guns and beat them with bullhooks, that are jabbed into their sensitive skin, on their thigh, behind their ears, even jabbing inside their mouths.
These Elephants, Tigers, Bears etc. endure severe confinement, hardship and brutality. Between acts these ENDANGERED SPECIES are kept chained up like bicycles or confined to cramped pens, which aren't large enough for them to turn around.
Dozens of Countries have Nation Wide Bans on Exotic Animals in Circuses. While Thousands of Municipalities and Cities World Wide have a Ban in place.
These Animals are Dangerous to the public!!
Please join the other Municipalities who share concern for the Public and Animal Welfare and stop these Groups from entering your jurisdiction. C'mon Barrie! We don't need to support this!
The Business Licensing By-law 2006-266 will be amended to add the following new provision under operating criteria associated with the “circus or similar show” licensing category: “Notwithstanding the above, the use or display of wildlife or exotic animals shall be prohibited.” The consolidate by-law will soon be available at www.barrie.ca/bylaws.

I definitely support this ban. I'm so happy the City is going to discuss this. It breaks my heart seeing the circus set up and the City advertise it on the buses.
Even if the Shrine Circus follows the conditions of safety and welfare of animals set forth in the licence and has no formal complaints from OSPCA that does not mean the elephant doesn't put up with physical and psychological abuse.
The training process is inhumane. Research bull hooks and other training methods.
Constantly being confined and on pavement is horrible for elephants and can cause degenerative joint and foot disease like we saw at the Toronto Zoo years ago when a few elephants died and the rest were sent to PAWS sanctuary.
They are herd animals and the psychological stress from being alone causes them to a head bob- foot to foot dance which is a sign of distress. In the wild they spend 80 percent of their time foraging and are naturally migratory mammals.
They can remember each other from decades ago, their memory is amazing and all they feel is abuse from this ***** trade.
I urge the committee to educate themselves on Elephant behaviour in the wild compared to captivity. Check out PAWS (Performing Animal Welfare Society) Elephant sanctuary for a better understanding. http://www.pawsweb.org/education_home_page.html
Animals should not be used for our entertainment at their expense. Shriners can entertain without the use of animals. My late father was a Mason and a Shriner - Knightrider and wore a red jumpsuit and a fez while riding a go kart over a ramp and everyone loved it.
I expect more from Canadians. We should be honourable and have more compassion than this. This is 2016, we can do better.
Thank you.

I love how the City claims no complaints have been received; I complained about this years ago and nothing was done. Ban ALL animal "entertainment". Any and all forms of entertainment featuring animals is cruel and unnecessary. Extend the ban to include domestic animals in petting zoos and pony rides.

I completely support a City of Barrie ban against all circuses with exotic animals. It's 2016, the world is evolving, it's no longer acceptable to use these majestic animals for our entertainment. Please have compassion, circuses are NO fun for the animals. Please google circus animal abuse, and/or watch this short link. http://youtu.be/l1kmN6p6LKE

City if Barrie please pass by-law that bans animals from performing in circuses in our area. It is the right thing to do. This is animal cruelty. Anyone who believes it is fine to force animals to perform for human entertainment is supporting and condoning the suffering of animals.

I support the ban!!!! Please do not bring circuses that use exotic animals to Barrie.I have felt this way for many years and when I receive calls asking if I would like to purchase tickets, I always express my opinion regarding the use to elephants in circuses. I'm sure their are other circuses that the City of Barrie can host that does not use exotic animals.

I support the ban! but it should be law. They're will always be cruel people in the world (those who think animals are for our entertainment and those who cater to it) but I think there are more GOOD people - thinking people. Hopefully more people choose compassion over lazy parenting and start teaching their children about respect & kindness for all living things so that this unnecessary cruelty will be a thing of the past.

It's time to move to the 21st century where we don't abuse animals for entertainment. Vote the circus OUT.

Completely support the BAN!! Animals deserve respect and to be cared for just as much as humans do. The people who treat animals this way should be put through that treatment!

There is no need to use animals of any kind in circuses. We must take a stand and stop circuses coming into town with animals. Please lets put a end to it.
